DHH Teacher (Deaf and Hard of Hearing) Job - 26/27 School Year
A full-time Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) Teacher position is available in New Orleans, LA for the upcoming school year. About the Role:
This school-based DHH role involves providing specialized instruction and support to students across a K-12 caseload. The teacher will focus on communication development, academic progress, and accessibility, working closely with general education staff and related service providers. You will play a key role in helping students build language skills and succeed in both inclusive and specialized learning environments.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Deaf Education, Special Education, or a related field
- Active Louisiana teaching certification in Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) or eligibility to obtain
- Knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL) and/or total communication methods preferred
- Understanding of assistive listening devices and hearing technology
- Previous school-based experience preferred
- Ability to pass background check and fingerprinting
- Strong collaboration and communication skills
Job Duties:
- Provide direct instruction to students who are deaf or hard of hearing
- Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Adapt curriculum and instructional materials for accessibility
- Collaborate with teachers, audiologists, SLPs, and families
- Support communication skills including sign language, speech reading, and auditory training
- Monitor student progress and maintain accurate documentation
- Participate in IEP meetings and multidisciplinary team discussions
