Remote School-Based Deaf & Hard of Hearing Educator in California
Instruction & Student Support
* Provide virtual instruction to students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing (DHH)
* Adapt curriculum and instructional materials to meet individual learning and communication needs
* Support development of language, communication, auditory, and academic skills
* Utilize a variety of communication methods (e.g., ASL, total communication, auditory-verbal strategies) based on student needs
Assessment & IEP Development
* Conduct assessments to evaluate student progress and educational needs
* Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
* Monitor student progress and adjust instruction using data-driven decisions
Collaboration & Consultation
* Collaborate with general education teachers, related service providers, and families
* Provide strategies and resources to support student success in virtual and home environments
* Participate in virtual IEP meetings and multidisciplinary team discussions
Documentation & Compliance
* Maintain accurate and timely documentation of services, progress, and IEP goals
* Ensure compliance with state, district, and federal special education regulations
* Complete required reports and progress updates
Technology & Virtual Learning Tools
* Utilize virtual platforms and assistive technology to deliver effective instruction
* Adapt teaching strategies for an engaging online learning environment
* Support students and families with technology access and troubleshooting as needed
Advocacy & Education
* Advocate for the needs of students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing
* Provide education and resources to families and school teams regarding hearing loss and communication access
Qualifications
* Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Deaf Education, Special Education, or related field
* Active California teaching certification in Deaf/Hard of Hearing (or ability to obtain)
* Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) preferred (or other communication modalities as needed)
* Minimum of 2+ years of experience working with DHH students (school-based preferred)
* Experience with IEP development and virtual instruction is a plus
* Strong communication, organization, and collaboration skills
* Comfortable using virtual learning platforms and educational technology
