What you’ll need to succeed:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Deaf Education, Special Education, or related field
- Valid state certification or endorsement in Deaf / Hard of Hearing education (or eligibility)
- Experience working with school-aged children who are deaf or hard of hearing
- Familiarity with assistive technology, classroom accommodations, and individualized education programs (IEPs)
- Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL) or other communication modalities used by deaf or hard of hearing students
- Strong collaboration, communication, and organizational skills
Key responsibilities:
- Develop and implement tailored lesson plans and instructional activities for students with hearing impairments
- Assess students’ needs and work within IEP teams to design and update individualized education programs
- Advise and collaborate with general education staff on accommodations and best practices
- Provide direct services and support students both in individual and small group settings
- Educate and advocate within the school community to foster inclusivity and awareness
- Monitor student progress, maintain records, and participate in IEP meetings
