Key Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Special Education or related field
  • Current Illinois certification or licensure as a Deaf and Hard of Hearing Teacher
  • Solid understanding of instructional strategies and use of assistive technology for students with hearing impairments
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and familiarity with a range of communication methods
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Deliver direct instruction and tailored support to meet the individual needs of DHH students
  • Create, implement, and monitor individualized education plans (IEPs) and necessary accommodations
  • Employ assistive technology, visual aids, and diverse communication tools to enhance learning experiences
  • Partner with classroom teachers, parents, and other professionals to ensure a positive and accessible learning environment
  • Train and guide students, families, and staff in best practices for communicating with and supporting students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing
