Step into a dynamic contract opportunity supporting young learners as a Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing for 1st and 2nd graders at a welcoming elementary campus near Arlington, TX. In this full-time, full-school-year position, you will have your own self-contained classroom and play a pivotal role in guiding students’ academic and language development. You’ll collaborate with a dedicated team of professionals and families to ensure every child has the tools and access they need to thrive.
What You’ll Bring:
- Valid Texas teaching certificate with Deaf and Hard of Hearing (EC-12) certification, or eligibility to obtain prior to the start date
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
- Proficiency in American Sign Language and/or spoken language modalities relevant to your students’ needs
- Knowledge of language acquisition and literacy development for DHH children
- Experience in developing and implementing IEPs
- Strong teamwork and family communication skills
Preferred Background:
- Experience teaching in a self-contained DHH classroom
- Early elementary (K–2) literacy instruction background
- Familiarity with RDSPD program operations and compliance
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) abilities
Core Responsibilities:
- Deliver direct, specialized instruction in reading, writing, math, and other academic content, adapted for DHH students
- Tailor lessons in accordance with each student’s IEP and preferred communication mode (ASL, spoken language, total communication, etc.)
- Collaborate with specialists (audiologists, SLPs, interpreters) for comprehensive support
- Monitor and document progress with regular assessments and progress reports
- Foster a visually and acoustically optimized classroom equipped with the latest technology
- Engage in ARD/IEP meetings, staff sessions, trainings, and ongoing professional development
