Qualifications & Desired Experience:
- Certification/licensure as a Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (or eligibility to obtain)
- Strong understanding of varied communication methods including oral, sign, and total communication approaches
- Experience developing and implementing IEPs for students who are deaf or hard of hearing
- Ability to collaborate effectively with families, general education teachers, and multidisciplinary teams
- Excellent communication, organizational, and advocacy skills
- Previous experience in a school setting is preferred
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instruction to students who are deaf or hard of hearing, adapting curriculum based on individual IEPs
- Assess each student’s abilities and needs to provide differentiated instruction
- Offer consultation and support to classroom teachers and staff, ensuring inclusive and accessible learning environments
- Monitor student progress, document performance, and participate in IEP meetings
- Serve as an educational advocate, fostering student self-advocacy and communication skills
