Step into a rewarding opportunity supporting elementary students as a skilled Deaf/Hard of Hearing educator. This contract role works within an engaging school environment, providing vital sign-to-voice and voice-to-sign interpretation services during student in-person days: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm, and Wednesday from 10:00 am to 3:30 pm. Additional hours may be available for extra-curricular activities, allowing you to further enrich the school community.

Your expertise will ensure compliance with IDEA, ADA, and state laws, and your presence as a valued partner will facilitate successful communication between D/deaf/Hard of Hearing students and the broader educational team. You may also support instructional activities under the direction of a classroom teacher.

Qualifications and Desired Experience:

  • Completion of an Interpreter Training Program is essential
  • RID certification and/or EIPA assessment score of 4.0 or above (as required by Washington State law since 2023)
  • Valid Washington State Driver’s License or evidence of reliable mobility
  • Successful completion of fingerprinting and clearance with WSP, FBI, and sexual misconduct screening
  • Prior experience in school-based environments is desirable

  • Interpret sign-to-voice and voice-to-sign interactions for students, teachers, staff, and the community in classroom and other academic settings
  • Foster clear communication, promoting access and inclusion for D/deaf/Hard of Hearing students
  • Collaborate closely with teaching staff and may provide instructional support as directed
  • Maintain confidentiality and support a positive learning atmosphere for all students
