Make a meaningful impact supporting elementary students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing in a school-based setting for the 2026/2027 school year. This contract role is located near Tacoma, WA, and focuses on providing high-quality interpretation and support to help students access educational opportunities.
Key Qualifications & Requirements:
- Completion of Interpreter Training Program required
- RID certification and/or EIPA assessment score of 4.0 or above (per Washington State law as of 2023)
- Ability to successfully pass WSP and FBI background checks, including sexual misconduct clearances
- Valid Washington State Driver’s License or other proof of mobility
- Prior experience in school environments is highly desirable
- Strong skills in both sign-to-voice and voice-to-sign interpretation within educational contexts
Primary Responsibilities:
- Facilitate communication for D/deaf and Hard of Hearing students by interpreting between sign and spoken language in classrooms and school activities
- Support IDEA and ADA legal compliance throughout daily assignments
- Collaborate effectively with students, teachers, staff, and community members
- Participate in additional instructional activities as directed by licensed teachers
- Contribute to a positive educational experience and academic achievement for D/HH students
- Potential to engage in extra-curricular activities with additional hours as needed
Enjoy a schedule that adheres to student in-person attendance: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 9:00am to 3:30pm; Wednesday from 10:00am to 3:30pm. Opportunity for extra hours may exist with after-school activities.
