DHH Teacher | Bremerton, Washington
Step into a rewarding opportunity supporting elementary students for the 2026/2027 school year as a Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing. This contract role offers the chance to foster an inclusive educational environment and enable D/deaf and Hard of Hearing (D/HH) students to thrive alongside their peers. Work in-person during student days and hours, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 9:00am-3:30pm, and Wednesdays from 10:00am-3:30pm, with possible additional hours for extra-curricular activities. Your expertise will ensure effective two-way communication in both classroom and broader school settings.
To be successful in this role, you’ll need:
- Completion of an Interpreter Training Program
- Current RID and/or EIPA assessment score of 4.0 or above (required by Washington law as of 2023)
- Valid Washington State Driver's License or proof of local mobility
- Clear fingerprints and successful WSP and FBI background/sexual misconduct clearance
- Previous experience in a school-based setting is preferred
Primary responsibilities include:
- Providing accurate sign-to-voice and voice-to-sign interpretation in classrooms and throughout the school as required by IDEA and ADA compliance
- Facilitating communication between D/HH students, teachers, staff, and community members
- Supporting instructional activities under the direction of teachers
- Promoting active participation and integration of D/HH students in educational and social activities
