Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing in Lakewood, WA

This contract opportunity for the 26/27 school year seeks a dedicated professional with expertise in both sign to voice and voice to sign interpretation—helping bridge communication for elementary-aged learners and team members in accordance with IDEA, ADA, and related requirements.
Your workdays align with student, in-person hours: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday from 9:00am to 3:30pm, and Wednesday from 10:00am to 3:30pm. There may also be occasional opportunities to pick up extra hours for participation in extracurricular school events.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Completion of Interpreter Training Program required
- Current RID certification and/or EIPA assessment with a score of 4.0+ (per Washington State regulations as of 2023)
- Successful clearance of WSP/FBI background and sexual misconduct checks, including fingerprinting
- Valid Washington State Driver’s License or evidence of reliable transportation
- Prior experience in a school setting strongly preferred
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver accurate interpretation between spoken language and American Sign Language (ASL) in classrooms and school events
- Support all aspects of communication among D/deaf and hard of hearing students, educators, staff, and the broader community
- Maintain compliance with all legal and ethical standards
- Collaborate with teachers to facilitate students' educational progress and may assist in related instructional tasks
