Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing in Glendale Heights, IL
Empower students with hearing differences to thrive academically and socially as an itinerant Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing. This rewarding, full-time, onsite contract opportunity spans from August 2026 through May 2027 and covers both a middle school and two elementary schools within a vibrant, supportive educational community. You’ll provide essential services designed to accommodate and advocate for K-8 learners, ensuring each student receives the individualized support they need.
Qualifications:
- Active Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with Deaf/Hard of Hearing (DHH) endorsement (required)
- Previous experience working as a Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing, preferably in a K-8 or itinerant setting
- Strong communication and collaboration skills across interdisciplinary teams
- Expertise in educational planning, accessibility accommodations, and the use of assistive technology for DHH students
- Ability to travel between school sites as part of the regular schedule
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver high-quality, individualized instruction and support to students with varying degrees of hearing loss
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, support staff, and families to develop and implement effective IEPs
- Advocate for and facilitate access to necessary classroom resources and assistive technologies
- Foster students’ self-advocacy skills and independence
- Monitor and document student progress, adapting instruction to meet changing needs
- Attend team meetings, IEP conferences, and professional development as required
