Qualifications and Desired Experience:
- Valid certification as a Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing or in process of obtaining.
- Experience working with children or adolescents who are deaf or hard of hearing.
- Knowledge of various communication modes, including American Sign Language (ASL), total communication, and auditory/oral approaches.
- Ability to design and implement individualized education plans (IEPs).
- Solid understanding of assistive technology and strategies relevant to students with hearing loss.
- Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills for working with students, staff, and families.
- Adaptable, solution-oriented, and committed to fostering inclusive learning environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver direct instruction and academic support using appropriate communication methods.
- Assess students’ individual needs and collaborate to develop effective IEP goals.
- Work closely with classroom teachers and support staff to adapt curriculum and materials.
- Advocate for accessible learning environments and provide consultation on modifications and accommodations.
- Facilitate communication and positive relationships among students, families, and school personnel.
- Monitor student progress and document outcomes regularly.
