Qualifications and Experience:
- Valid teaching certification for Deaf / Hard of Hearing or eligibility in the state of North Carolina
- Demonstrated experience teaching or supporting Deaf / Hard of Hearing students in school settings
- Strong skills in using a variety of communication methods, including American Sign Language (ASL) and/or spoken language as needed
- Ability to collaborate closely with general education teachers, related service providers, and families
- Dedication to fostering an inclusive, engaging, and supportive classroom climate
- Strong organizational skills and adaptability to meet students’ individual needs
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instruction and support to students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing, tailoring instructional strategies to varying communication preferences and educational levels
- Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in partnership with multidisciplinary teams
- Monitor student progress, assess learning goals, and adjust educational approaches as required
- Advocate for accessible learning opportunities and optimal classroom experiences
- Serve as a resource and liaison for school staff and families about Deaf/Hard of Hearing needs and best practices
- Promote self-advocacy, independence, and confidence among students
