Teacher of the Deaf in Lowell, MA
In this contract opportunity, a dedicated professional is needed to provide support as a Teacher for Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) students. Working onsite and serving Haverhill students across four schools, you’ll collaborate closely with educational staff to deliver impactful instruction and ensure accessible learning environments. The position offers per diem scheduling (1-2 days per week) and is available through June 2027.
Qualifications and Desired Experience:
- Current and active Massachusetts Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (TODHH) License issued by DESE
- Demonstrated experience teaching or supporting students who are deaf or hard of hearing
- Strong knowledge of DHH instructional strategies, communication modalities, and technology
- Ability to work effectively with students across multiple grade levels and adapt to various school settings
- Collaborative mindset for partnering with teachers, specialists, and families
Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instruction and support to DHH students based on Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Travel between up to four schools, ensuring continuity of services for all assigned students
- Collaborate with general education teachers and related service providers to implement accommodations and modifications
- Support students’ language development using appropriate communication methods (ASL, spoken English, etc.)
- Participate in IEP meetings, progress reporting, and ongoing communication with families and staff
- Stay current with best practices in deaf education and incorporate current technologies into instruction
