Make a meaningful impact supporting students as an educator for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, working onsite with schools throughout a local county. This contract position involves collaborating directly with students, families, and staff to facilitate effective learning and communication experiences. You will serve as an itinerant teacher, traveling to various school sites in the area to assist a caseload of approximately 30 students, some of whom utilize cochlear implants. The role is a full-time opportunity, offering 35 hours per week during the school year.
Desired Skills & Experience:
- Valid certification to teach Deaf/Hard of Hearing students as required by California
- Experience delivering onsite instruction and support, ideally with itinerant service models
- Knowledge and commitment to best practices in Deaf education, including the use of auditory/oral and sign language methods
- Comfortable working with technology such as FM systems, cochlear implants, and related assistive devices
- Strong communication skills to work effectively with multidisciplinary educational teams
- Adaptability to travel between multiple schools and locations as part of your weekly schedule
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide individualized and group instruction to Deaf/Hard of Hearing students at various sites across the county
- Adapt materials and modify curriculum to support language acquisition and academic success
- Conduct assessments and contribute to IEP meetings
- Support students with, and without, cochlear implants; facilitate access to auditory technology as needed
- Collaborate with general education teachers, speech therapists, and service coordinators
- Serve as an advocate for each student’s communication and educational needs
