Teacher of the Deaf | Venus, Texas
A school district in Venus, TX, is seeking a skilled Deaf / Hard of Hearing Specialist to provide expert support and services to students with hearing impairments. This contract position offers the opportunity to work directly within an educational setting, helping to create an inclusive environment tailored to the unique needs of Deaf and Hard of Hearing students.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess and identify students with hearing impairments
- Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) specific to auditory and communication needs
- Provide specialized instruction and support in communication strategies, including sign language and assistive technology
- Collaborate with teachers, parents, and related service providers to ensure appropriate accommodations and modifications
- Conduct hearing screenings and monitor student progress regularly
- Advocate for Deaf/Hard of Hearing students within the school environment
Desired Qualifications:
- Certification or licensure as a Deaf / Hard of Hearing Specialist or Education of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (EDHH)
- Experience working with children and adolescents who have hearing impairments
- Knowledge of hearing devices, assistive listening technology, and communication modalities
- Strong collaboration and communication skills to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams
- Understanding of federal and state regulations related to special education
