Qualifications and Desired Experience:
- Valid licensure or certification as a Deaf/Hard of Hearing Specialist (as required by state regulations)
- Experience working with school-aged children who are deaf or hard of hearing
- Strong American Sign Language (ASL) proficiency, along with other communication modalities
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills
- Ability to design and adapt instruction based on individual student needs
- Familiarity with assistive listening devices, hearing aids, cochlear implants, and FM systems
- Commitment to fostering an accessible and supportive educational environment
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct and consultative services to students who are deaf or hard of hearing within educational settings
- Assess students’ needs and develop Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals and accommodations
- Collaborate with teachers, staff, and parents to ensure accessibility in classrooms and school activities
- Support students’ self-advocacy and communication development
- Train and consult on the effective use of assistive devices and technology
- Participate in IEP meetings, progress monitoring, and professional development as required
