Qualifications:
- Valid certification or licensure as a Deaf/Hard of Hearing Specialist (or eligibility to obtain)
- Previous experience working with school-aged children who are deaf or hard of hearing is preferred
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) strongly desired
- Thorough knowledge of assessment, instructional strategies, and assistive technologies related to hearing needs
- Exceptional communication skills for collaborating with teachers, families, and multidisciplinary teams
- Ability to develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) tailored to each student
Core Responsibilities:
- Provide direct and consultative services to students with hearing impairments in both group and individual settings
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to modify instructional materials and adapt classroom environments
- Participate in the assessment process, including recommending accommodations or assistive devices
- Deliver ongoing support for faculty and family members, fostering an inclusive environment
- Monitor student progress toward IEP goals and maintain detailed documentation
- Serve as an advocate for deaf/hard of hearing students, ensuring access to all aspects of the educational experience
