Qualifications & Skills:
- Valid certification or licensure as a Deaf/Hard of Hearing Specialist (DHH), or in process of obtaining
- Experience working with students who are deaf or hard of hearing in educational settings
- Strong knowledge of assistive technology, audiological devices, and interpreting services
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) highly preferred
- Ability to adapt instructional materials based on student needs
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational abilities
Core Responsibilities:
- Provide direct and consultative services to students with hearing impairments in alignment with their Individualized Education Plans (IEP)
- Collaborate with general and special education teachers, speech-language pathologists, and administrative staff
- Assess students’ abilities and suggest accommodations or modifications to curriculum
- Educate staff on best practices, communication strategies, and the integration of technology or devices
- Facilitate communication and advocacy for students and their families, fostering a supportive classroom environment
- Maintain records and participate in IEP meetings, helping to develop goals and monitor progress
