Qualifications & Experience:
- Valid state certification or licensure required for Deaf / Hard of Hearing Specialists
- Strong background in Deaf education, audiology, or speech-language pathology
- Proficiency with assistive listening devices and communication strategies such as ASL, cued speech, or auditory/oral approaches
- Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, staff, and families
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
- Previous experience in school settings preferred
Key Responsibilities:
- Support students with hearing loss through direct instruction, accommodations, and advocacy
- Conduct assessments and help create Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
- Consult with teachers, administrators, and families to implement appropriate services and classroom modifications
- Provide training on using hearing technology and classroom strategies to improve access
- Facilitate communication between students, peers, and school personnel
- Participate in IEP meetings, data tracking, and progress reporting
- Stay current with best practices and new developments in the field
