Qualifications and Preferred Experience:
- Valid certification or licensure as a Deaf/Hard of Hearing Specialist (in accordance with state requirements)
- Strong knowledge of auditory impairments, assistive technology, language development, and accessible educational practices
- Experience in a school or child-focused setting
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) highly preferred
- Excellent interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with teachers, students, and families
- Commitment to inclusive education strategies and advocacy for student success
Role Responsibilities:
- Conduct assessments to determine the educational needs of deaf and hard of hearing students
- Deliver individual and group instruction or support as specified in IEPs
- Consult with educators and staff on classroom modifications, technology, and communication strategies
- Support families and caregivers with resources and recommendations
- Ensure school compliance with federal and state regulations regarding accessibility
- Advocate for accessible materials and equitable participation across the school curriculum and activities
- Maintain documentation and participate in IEP meetings as a key team member
