Deaf and Hard of Hearing Teacher (DHH) in Buena Vista, VA

Key qualifications and experience:
- Valid state certification as a Teacher or Specialist for the Deaf/Hard of Hearing
- Experience designing and implementing individualized educational plans (IEPs)
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and/or other communication modalities used within the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community
- Strong understanding of assistive listening devices, FM systems, and relevant classroom technologies
- Ability to assess student needs and create accessible curriculum materials
- Excellent communication, consultation, and teamwork skills
Primary responsibilities:
- Deliver direct and consultative services to students with hearing loss in various educational settings
- Collaborate with general and special education teachers, interpreting services, and support staff to support student goals
- Participate actively in the IEP process, contributing to evaluations, goal-setting, and ongoing monitoring
- Advocate for the use of appropriate accommodations, instructional strategies, and assistive technology
- Provide in-service training for school personnel and guidance for families to ensure a supportive environment
- Maintain thorough documentation and progress reporting in line with district, state, and federal regulations
