Deaf and Hard of Hearing Specialist | Monroe, Virginia

Qualifications and Desired Experience:
- Valid certification as a Teacher or Specialist for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing
- Thorough knowledge of current instructional strategies and technologies for Deaf/Hard of Hearing students
- Ability to develop and modify Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Strong communication and collaboration skills with students, staff, and families
- Experience with various communication modalities, such as ASL, auditory-oral techniques, or cued speech
- Previous experience in a school setting preferred
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess students’ needs and identify strengths and areas for growth
- Deliver specialized instruction adapted to individual student’s learning styles and needs
- Collaborate with classroom teachers and staff to support inclusion and classroom accommodations
- Serve as an advocate and resource for families, providing information and training as needed
- Contribute to the development and review of IEPs, maintaining accurate records and documentation
- Create classroom resources and integrate assistive technology to maximize learning opportunities
- Participate in team meetings, professional development, and ongoing communication with colleagues
