Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) - King, North Carolina
Make a difference in the lives of K-12 students as a specialist supporting Deaf and Hard of Hearing learners across a district near King, NC. This contract-based, itinerant position plays an essential role in ensuring students receive high-quality support and equitable access to education in a school setting.
Key Qualifications and Experience:
- Valid state licensure or certification as a Deaf/Hard of Hearing Specialist or Teacher for the Deaf/Hard of Hearing (DHH)
- Experience working with K-12 students, adapting instruction for a wide range of ages and abilities
- Strong understanding of auditory devices, FM systems, and assistive technologies
- Ability to collaborate with general education teachers, special education staff, and families
- Excellent communication skills, including proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) or other appropriate signing systems
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment
Core Responsibilities:
- Travel between school sites within the district, delivering direct and consultative services for DHH students
- Conduct assessments, develop, and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) tailored to student needs
- Support classroom instruction through modifications, strategies, and resources that promote communication access
- Provide training and guidance for school staff and families on best practices for supporting Deaf and Hard of Hearing students
- Advocate for students' needs and full participation in academic and extracurricular activities
- Document progress and maintain accurate records in compliance with district and state requirements
