Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) - Litchfield, IL
Make a lasting impact supporting students as a Deaf / Hard of Hearing Specialist and Teacher. This full-time contract opportunity is ideal for passionate educational professionals skilled in working with students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing. With both full-time and part-time positions available, you’ll play a vital role providing direct service and consultative support to students across Bond, Fayette, and Montgomery counties.
This is an itinerant position, meaning you’ll travel between schools within these areas, collaborating with staff and families to ensure all learners achieve their best outcomes. Your expertise will help shape accessible learning environments and advocate for the needs of Deaf and Hard of Hearing students.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Valid or pending state certification for Deaf / Hard of Hearing teaching or specialist roles
- ASL proficiency and/or effective communication techniques for diverse needs
- Experience supporting K-12 students in educational settings preferred
- Strong understanding of IDEA, IEP process, accommodations, and technology for DHH students
- Ability to work independently, travel between multiple school sites, and collaborate across teams
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instruction and support to students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing
- Conduct assessments to inform individualized education planning
- Collaborate with general and special education staff to implement accommodations
- Consult with families, sharing strategies to promote student success at school and home
- Advocate for accessibility and inclusion throughout the educational community
- Maintain accurate progress records and participate in IEP meetings
