As the Deaf / Hard of Hearing Specialist, you will:
- Work closely with elementary students who are deaf or hard of hearing, adapting lessons for their unique learning needs
- Implement individualized education plans (IEPs) in accordance with students’ goals and abilities
- Provide direct instruction in a resource or classroom setting, fostering strong communication skills through sign language and other methods
- Support and collaborate with classroom teachers to ensure an accessible, engaging curriculum
- Serve as a resource for students and families by sharing strategies and information related to hearing support
- Monitor student progress, document growth, and regularly communicate with multi-disciplinary teams
Qualified candidates will have:
- Certification as a Teacher of the Deaf / Hard of Hearing or relevant state licensure
- Previous experience working with school-aged children, preferably in elementary education
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) or Signed English
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Compassion, patience, and the ability to build rapport with students and families
