Make a meaningful impact supporting elementary-aged students as a Deaf / Hard of Hearing Specialist in a contract role. Qualifications & Desired Experience:
- Valid certification or credential for teaching Deaf / Hard of Hearing students (state requirements apply)
- Prior experience in an educational setting serving deaf or hard of hearing children, particularly at the elementary level
- Strong skills in American Sign Language (ASL) and familiarity with visual communication strategies
- Understanding of relevant technology, adaptive equipment, and assistive listening devices
- Ability to tailor instructional approaches to meet individual student needs
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities with students, families, and multidisciplinary teams
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instruction and support to elementary students who are deaf or hard of hearing within classroom settings
- Collaborate with general education teachers to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs)
- Advocate for student needs and ensure appropriate classroom accommodations and modifications
- Utilize a variety of instructional methods, materials, and technologies to optimize student engagement and learning
- Monitor student progress and adjust interventions as needed, maintaining accurate and timely records
- Build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues to foster a supportive educational environment
