Desired qualifications and experience:
- Valid teaching credential with specialization in Deaf and Hard of Hearing education
- Previous experience working with students who are deaf or hard of hearing, in either classroom or itinerant settings
- Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL) and familiar with alternative communication systems
- Strong knowledge of current assistive technology and instructional strategies
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and advocacy skills
- Creative, compassionate, and able to individualize lessons to meet diverse learning needs
Key responsibilities include:
- Designing and implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with hearing impairments
- Delivering direct instruction in self-contained and/or mainstream classrooms
- Consulting regularly with general education teachers and staff to ensure appropriate accommodations
- Utilizing various communication methods and assistive devices to optimize student learning
- Supporting and training families and staff in effective communication strategies
- Assessing student progress and adapting instruction to address evolving needs
- Participating in IEP meetings and maintaining accurate documentation
