Teacher of the Deaf in Atlanta, GA

Key Qualifications and Experience:
- Valid state certification in Deaf/Hard of Hearing instruction or eligibility for certification
- Background working with children or adolescents who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing
- Strong understanding of auditory/oral, manual, or total communication approaches
- Ability to create and modify Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Familiarity with relevant assistive technology and accommodations
- Collaborative spirit for working alongside classroom teachers, administrators, and families
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Deaf Education or related field required; Master’s preferred
Primary Responsibilities:
- Deliver direct instruction to students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing using appropriate communication modalities
- Develop and implement customized lesson plans and IEP goals
- Provide consultative support and resources to general education staff
- Evaluate and monitor student progress, adjusting strategies as needed
- Foster an inclusive learning environment that celebrates diversity and equity
- Advocate for students’ needs and participate in multidisciplinary team meetings
- Engage families in supporting student growth and self-advocacy
