Teacher of the Deaf in Birmingham, AL
Make a meaningful impact supporting students as a Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing on a contract basis. As part of the screening process, you’ll interact with another teacher currently placed in the district, facilitating essential insights and support as you transition into this vital role.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university
- Valid Alabama Teacher’s Certificate
- Ability to meet Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) state and federal requirements, or willingness to complete these within the designated timeframe
- Possession of, or willingness to obtain, required licensure for Deaf/Hard of Hearing education within the State of Alabama
- Strong communication skills with students, staff, and families
- Passion for fostering accessibility and success among diverse learners
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct and consultative services for students who are deaf or hard of hearing across various grade levels
- Develop and adapt instructional plans that address IEP goals, ensuring accommodations are met
- Collaborate with general education teachers and support staff for optimal inclusion
- Maintain accurate records and comprehensive progress reports
- Serve as an advocate and resource for students and families regarding hearing impairment supports
- Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and team planning as required
