DHH Teacher | Douglas, Alaska
Shape the 2026-2027 school year by supporting students as a Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing in beautiful Alaska. This onsite, full-time contract assignment offers an opportunity to work with a diverse caseload of 10 students in grades 1 through 12, making a lasting impact across elementary, middle, and high school levels. Working hours are generally between 8AM and 4PM and may vary slightly due to the needs of different grade levels.
Desired Qualifications:
- Current Alaska teaching licensure and Type C Certification, or eligible for pending licensure (please provide documentation or certification numbers with your application)
- Experience teaching deaf/hard of hearing students in a classroom setting across multiple grade levels preferred
- Strong communication and collaboration skills; comfortable working within interdisciplinary teams
- Ability to adapt instruction to meet individual student needs and varying communication modalities
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive, supportive learning environment
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instruction, advocacy, and support to students with hearing differences in grades 1–12
- Collaborate with general education teachers, specialists, and families to implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
- Develop and adapt curriculum materials for accessibility and comprehension
- Monitor student progress, maintain accurate records, and participate in IEP meetings
- Serve as a knowledgeable resource for staff and families on effective strategies and technology for deaf/hard of hearing learners
