Ideal candidates will bring a deep understanding of both educational best practices and the unique needs of DHH students, creating tailored instructional strategies and advocating for accommodations.
Qualifications and Desired Experience:
- Active Washington State Teaching Certificate, either Residency or Professional certificate, with a specialization in Deaf Education or Deaf/Hard of Hearing endorsement
- Experience working with students who are deaf or hard of hearing across various grade levels
- Strong skills in American Sign Language (ASL) and/or other communication modalities used in DHH education
- Ability to adapt curriculum to meet individualized education plans (IEPs)
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills with educators, families, and specialists
Primary Responsibilities:
- Deliver specialized instruction, adapting lessons to meet the needs of deaf and hard of hearing students
- Create, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
- Provide direct support, advocacy, and instruction in diverse classroom or resource settings
- Collaborate with general education teachers and support staff to ensure full access to curriculum and activities
- Participate in assessment, progress monitoring, and ongoing evaluation of student needs and achievements
- Engage families and caregivers to facilitate student success
