Qualifications and Experience:
- Valid state teaching certification with an endorsement in Deaf/Hard of Hearing or eligibility to obtain
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Deaf Education, Special Education, or a related field
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and familiarity with other communication modalities (e.g., oral, cued speech)
- Experience developing and implementing Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver direct instruction to students with varying levels of hearing loss in both individual and group settings
- Assess students’ strengths and needs, adapting lessons and strategies to maximize learning outcomes
- Provide recommendations, accommodations, and assistive technology support in the general education classroom
- Collaborate with general education teachers and staff to promote accessibility and inclusion
- Foster a supportive classroom environment that values each student’s linguistic and cultural identity
- Engage in ongoing professional development to remain current with best practices in deaf education
