Teacher of the Deaf in Avondale Estates, GA
Empower students to reach their full potential by supporting and advocating for deaf and hard of hearing learners in a dynamic school environment. As a Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing, you'll collaborate with educators, families, and school staff to create inclusive and accessible educational experiences that make a real difference.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing direct instruction to students with hearing loss, both in individual and small group settings
- Creating, adapting, and implementing educational materials based on students’ individualized education plans (IEPs)
- Consulting with general education teachers and support staff to facilitate classroom inclusion
- Serving as a resource for families, offering guidance on communication options and assistive technology
- Monitoring and documenting student progress, adjusting strategies as needed
- Advocating for accommodations and tools that support optimal learning
- Participating in IEP meetings and other interdisciplinary collaborations
Qualifications and desired experience:
- Valid state certification in Deaf/Hard of Hearing Education
- Previous experience teaching or supporting students with hearing impairments in school settings
- Familiarity with American Sign Language (ASL), total communication, and/or cued speech
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to adapt teaching strategies to meet a variety of student needs
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive, supportive classroom atmosphere
