What we’re looking for:
- Valid teaching certification for Deaf/Hard of Hearing in Illinois
- Deep understanding of ASL, Total Communication, or other communication modalities (as appropriate for students’ needs)
- Previous experience working with high school-aged students preferred
- Strong collaboration and communication skills for teaming with colleagues, interpreting staff, and families
- Passion for creating accessible classroom environments and adapting curriculum
- Commitment to promoting inclusion and advocating for student success
Key responsibilities:
- Deliver direct instruction and support services for Deaf/Hard of Hearing students in various classroom settings
- Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
- Modify and adapt curriculum resources to ensure accessibility for all students
- Collaborate with general education teachers and related service providers
- Foster self-advocacy skills and support social/emotional growth for students
- Communicate regularly with students’ families about progress and strategies for reinforcement
