Qualifications and Experience Sought:
- Current certification as a Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing
- Demonstrated experience working with Deaf/Hard of Hearing adolescents in a school environment
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and/or other communication modalities
- Strong collaboration skills for working closely with general educators, families, and support staff
- Commitment to creating an inclusive, empowering classroom environment
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement individualized educational plans (IEPs) tailored to high school students’ needs
- Facilitate lesson delivery in core academic areas, adapting materials and instruction to maximize learning
- Use a variety of communication methods, including sign language, cued speech, or assistive technology
- Assess student progress regularly and communicate results to parents and professionals
- Advocate for students’ needs and foster skills for independence and self-advocacy
- Provide insight and training to staff on best practices for supporting Deaf and Hard of Hearing learners
