Deaf and Hard of Hearing Teacher - Binghamton, NY
Support students of all ages in an educational environment as a Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing. This contract opportunity allows you to make a difference, ensuring access to a rich learning experience for children who are deaf or hard of hearing. Partner with educators and families to implement individualized strategies and provide specialized instruction tailored to each student’s needs.
Qualifications/Desired Experience:
- State certification as a Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing (or eligibility for certification)
- Experience working with children or youth who are deaf or hard of hearing
- Solid understanding of educational accommodations and assistive technology
- Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with school staff and families
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) preferred, but not required
Responsibilities:
- Deliver direct instruction to students who are deaf or hard of hearing in a variety of school settings
- Develop, modify, and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to adapt curriculum and support integration
- Monitor student progress and provide regular updates to parents and staff
- Advocate for student access to communication supports, technology, and resources
- Participate in IEP meetings, teacher conferences, and professional development
