Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Deaf Education or related field
- Valid teaching certification for Deaf/Hard of Hearing (as required by state standards)
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and/or other communication modes used by students
- Experience adapting educational materials and assessments to accommodate varying levels of hearing and language proficiency
- Strong interpersonal skills for effective communication with students, educators, and parents
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instruction to students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing, using both individual and group formats
- Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), ensuring goals align with each student’s abilities and needs
- Collaborate with general and special education teachers to adjust classroom environments and instructional methods
- Advocate for students’ access to curriculum, technology, and services that support their learning
- Offer guidance and resources to families to enhance understanding and support at home
- Participate in IEP meetings, parent conferences, and professional development activities
