Desired Experience and Qualifications:

  • Valid teaching credential specific for Deaf/Hard of Hearing students (or eligibility to obtain in Illinois).
  • Previous experience working as a Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing or similar roles in school settings.
  • Strong knowledge of ASL and other alternatives to spoken communication.
  • Skilled in developing and adapting Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).
  • Comfortable collaborating with multidisciplinary teams across the district.
  • Ability to work effectively with students from a variety of backgrounds and grade levels.
  • Organized, compassionate, and solution-oriented professional.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct instruction and support to Deaf and Hard of Hearing students district-wide.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor IEPs tailored to individual student needs and educational goals.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, interpreters, specialists, and families to ensure a supportive academic environment.
  • Offer expertise in accessible communication strategies, auditory technology, and classroom accommodations.
  • Serve as an advocate for student needs and inclusion across a range of school settings.
  • Provide training and resources to staff as needed to enhance understanding of Deaf/Hard of Hearing student needs.
