Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (TDHH) | Schenectady, New York
Passionate about inclusive education? This full-time contract opportunity is perfect for an experienced Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing ready to make a lasting difference. Located in the Guilderland area, you’ll support young learners in a nurturing environment dedicated to their growth.
You’ll serve students in a K-2 self-contained 6:1:2 classroom as well as a 3-5 self-contained 8:1:2 setting. Your expertise will empower each child to access language, communication, and classroom learning while collaborating closely with families and colleagues. This position offers a pay rate of $50 per hour.
Desired Qualifications and Experience:
- Current certification as a Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (or eligibility for certification)
- Experience teaching deaf or hard of hearing students in K-5 settings
- Proficiency in sign language (ASL and/or other communication modalities preferred)
- Deep understanding of individualized education plans (IEPs) and best practices for differentiated instruction
- Strong communication and collaboration skills with students, families, and multidisciplinary teams
- Compassionate, flexible, and innovative approach to student needs
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement tailored instruction based on individual student goals and IEPs
- Use appropriate communication modes to foster understanding and language development
- Monitor student progress, adjusting strategies for optimal academic and social-emotional growth
- Work collaboratively with other educators, therapists, and families to create a supportive environment
- Contribute to IEP meetings and document student progress accurately
