Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (TDHH) - Wappingers Falls, New York
Make a real difference in students’ lives by providing expert support as a Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. A contract opportunity is available for the upcoming academic year, from September 7, 2026, through June 25, 2027, serving students in an educational setting near Wappingers Falls, NY. This part-time role is designed to support a small caseload—two elementary, one middle school, and one high school student—through approximately five hours weekly, with a strong emphasis on consultative services and individualized attention.
Key Qualifications:
- Current New York Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Certification (PK–12)
- Hands-on experience as a Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) to support communication needs
- Comfortable working with hearing technology, including FM/DM systems, AAC devices, and cochlear implants
Responsibilities:
- Provide direct consultation and specialized instruction in line with each student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP), focusing on 30-minute sessions per student weekly
- Collaborate with educational teams to create, implement, and monitor personalized IEP goals for students with hearing loss
- Complete progress documentation and required paperwork efficiently
- Serve as an instructional resource, ensuring best practices in hearing technology use within the classroom
