Qualifications and Desired Experience:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and other communication modes used by students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing
- State or nationally recognized interpreter certification (such as EIPA, RID, or BEI), preferred or required by state regulations
- Prior experience interpreting in K-12 settings, specifically with early childhood and elementary populations
- Strong interpersonal and advocacy skills, working cooperatively with educational staff and families
- Commitment to supporting students’ communication, social, and academic growth
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide interpreting services for Deaf or Hard of Hearing students in Pre-K and elementary classrooms
- Collaborate with general and special education teachers to adapt materials and communication
- Facilitate effective communication between students, peers, and staff
- Assist in the development and implementation of individualized education plans (IEPs)
- Foster an inclusive environment that supports language and learning access for all students
