Deaf and Hard of Hearing Teacher (DHH) in Arlington Heights, IL
Make a meaningful difference supporting students as a Hearing Itinerant working part-time as a Deaf/Hard of Hearing Specialist. This contract position is situated near Arlington Heights, IL, and offers a rewarding opportunity to provide specialized services to students across multiple campuses.
As a Hearing Itinerant, you'll work collaboratively with school teams, families, and students to promote an inclusive and accessible environment. You’ll have the chance to plan and deliver tailored instruction, make critical impact, and advocate for students’ communication and learning needs.
Ideal candidates will demonstrate:
- Certification as a Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing, or eligibility for state licensure
- Prior experience in educational settings supporting students who are deaf or hard of hearing
- Proficiency in auditory training, assistive/augmentative technology, and accommodations
- Knowledge of sign language (ASL, SEE, or other systems) highly valued
- Strong ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, general educators, and families
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Flexibility to travel between multiple school sites as required
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing direct and consultative services to students identified as deaf or hard of hearing
- Creating and implementing individualized educational programs (IEPs) and progress monitoring
- Working with teachers to adapt curriculum, classroom environment, and instructional strategies
- Supporting use and troubleshooting of amplification devices and technology
- Facilitating effective communication between students, families, and school staff
- Maintaining detailed records to ensure compliance with state and federal guidelines
