Step into an impactful contract position supporting students as a Deaf/Hard of Hearing Specialist. This full-time opportunity runs from ASAP through the end of the school year, offering a chance to make a difference for learners who are deaf or hard of hearing.
As an integral part of the student support team, you'll provide specialized instruction, advocate for accessibility, and help create inclusive learning environments. Collaborate with educators, families, and staff to ensure students maximize their educational experience and achieve success.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Valid state teaching certification with endorsement for Deaf/Hard of Hearing or comparable credentials
- Experience working as a Teacher or Specialist for Deaf/Hard of Hearing students
- Strong knowledge of current instructional strategies, assistive technology, and accommodations for students with hearing loss
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) strongly preferred
- Ability to develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
- Excellent communication skills for collaborating with multidisciplinary teams
- Committed to fostering independence and self-advocacy in students
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver direct instruction and support for students who are deaf or hard of hearing
- Adapt curriculum materials to meet individual needs
- Provide consultation and training for general education teachers and school staff
- Facilitate communication between students, staff, and families using various modalities, including ASL when needed
- Monitor student progress and document outcomes
- Assist with the integration of assistive listening devices, captioning, and other supports
- Contribute to student evaluations and the IEP process
