Overview
A school district in Culpeper, Virginia is seeking a qualified Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) for the 2026–2027 school year. This position will support students with hearing impairments by providing specialized instruction and services that promote language development, communication access, and academic success.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct instruction to students who are deaf or hard of hearing in individual and small-group settings
- Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in compliance with state and federal regulations
- Collaborate with general education teachers, interpreters, audiologists, and related service providers
- Support the use of communication modalities (e.g., ASL, spoken language, total communication) based on student needs
- Monitor and document student progress toward IEP goals
- Assist with classroom accommodations, assistive listening devices, and accessibility supports
- Participate in IEP meetings and multidisciplinary team discussions
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Deaf Education or related field
- Valid Virginia teaching license with endorsement in Deaf and Hard of Hearing (or eligibility to obtain)
- Experience working with students with hearing impairments preferred
- Knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL) and/or other communication systems preferred
- Strong collaboration and communication skills
