Key Qualifications:
- Valid certification or licensure as a Deaf/Hard of Hearing Specialist
- Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree in Special Education or related field preferred
- Demonstrated experience working with deaf or hard of hearing students in an educational setting
- Strong understanding of auditory equipment, assistive technology, language development, and individualized education programs (IEPs)
- Exceptional communication, advocacy, and collaboration skills
- Knowledge of current best practices in deaf education and ADA requirements
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide direct and consultative services to students who are deaf or hard of hearing, supporting their academic growth
- Collaborate with teachers, staff, and families to develop and implement effective educational strategies and accommodations
- Conduct assessments and help craft individualized education plans (IEPs) in alignment with each student’s unique needs
- Offer training and guidance on the use of auditory devices and classroom modifications
- Serve as an expert resource within the school, promoting awareness and ensuring compliance with best practices
- Monitor students’ progress and adjust support services as necessary
