Key Qualifications:
- State certification as a Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing or related endorsement required
- Proven experience working with children or adolescents who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing, preferably in a school setting
- Strong knowledge of best practices in auditory/oral, total communication, and/or American Sign Language (ASL)
- Ability to develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams
- Excellent communication, consultation, and organizational skills
- Flexibility to work with K–12 students and adapt approaches accordingly
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive, accessible, and positive school culture
Primary Responsibilities:
- Deliver specialized instruction and support to students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing across multiple school sites
- Collaborate with general education teachers, interpreters, related service providers, and families to support student access and engagement
- Conduct assessments and contribute to eligibility meetings and IEP development
- Provide training and resources for staff to facilitate communication access and understanding of hearing differences
- Monitor student progress and adjust instructional strategies to maximize learning outcomes
- Advocate for accessibility accommodations and assistive technology as needed
- Build positive relationships with students and families to encourage continued growth and involvement
