Deaf and Hard of Hearing Teacher (DHH) in Irving, TX

Key qualifications and preferred experience:
- Current certification or credential as a Deaf / Hard of Hearing Specialist (or eligible for certification in Texas)
- Experience working with students who are deaf or hard of hearing, ideally within a school or educational setting
- Strong knowledge of assistive listening devices, FM systems, and classroom adaptations
- Ability to communicate effectively using a variety of modalities, including sign language and spoken language
- Comfort working both independently and alongside general education and special education teams
- Creative, flexible approach to developing and implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
Responsibilities include:
- Assessing students to determine levels of hearing loss and the impact on educational performance
- Developing and monitoring IEPs tailored to each student’s needs
- Providing direct and consultative services, supporting teachers and staff with strategies and modifications
- Ensuring access to curriculum through technological supports and classroom adjustments
- Promoting awareness and understanding of hearing differences among students and staff
- Keeping thorough documentation of progress and services provided
- Engaging with families to support student growth and advocate for systemic improvements
