This full-time position (35 hours per week) offers two possible assignments: itinerant service across multiple sites or a single middle school homebase.
Key Qualifications:
- Valid teaching certification for Deaf/Hard of Hearing in Illinois
- Thorough knowledge of instructional techniques for students with hearing loss
- Experience creating accessible lesson materials and supporting language development
- Strong collaboration and communication skills with educators, families, and support staff
- Flexibility to travel between school sites, if itinerant position is chosen
- Commitment to fostering inclusive, supportive classroom environments
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide specialized instruction to students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing, adapting lessons for accessibility
- Develop and deliver individualized education plans (IEPs) in coordination with student support teams
- Serve as a resource to classroom teachers by modeling strategies and sharing best practices
- Support language acquisition and auditory development according to student needs
- Advocate for student access and accommodations within the educational environment
- Maintain accurate records and participate in team meetings
- For itinerant roles: travel to designated schools within the area (mileage is billable)
