Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) - Schaumburg, Illinois
Empower students by providing specialized education as a Deaf/Hard of Hearing (DHH) Teacher at a vibrant school community near Schaumburg, IL. This full-time contract opportunity (35 hours per week) invites passionate professionals to serve either as an itinerant teacher supporting multiple sites or as the primary DHH specialist based at one middle school. Key Qualifications:
- Valid state certification in Deaf/Hard of Hearing education
- Previous experience teaching or supporting students with hearing loss, preferably within school settings
- Knowledge of auditory/oral and/or sign language instructional strategies
- Strong collaboration and communication skills to partner with general educators, specialists, and families
- Comfort working independently across multiple schools or within a focused, single-campus environment
- Reliable transportation and willingness to travel between school sites, if applying for the itinerant role
- Commitment to supporting inclusive learning
Core Responsibilities:
- Deliver direct instruction and support to students who are deaf or hard of hearing in a variety of educational settings
- Assess student abilities, create individualized educational plans (IEPs), and monitor progress
- Adapt curriculum and classroom materials for auditory access or visual learning, as needed
- Provide consultative support to general education staff to foster understanding and inclusion
- Facilitate effective communication among students, teachers, families, and outside service providers
- Participate in team meetings, professional development, and compliance documentation
- Track and submit mileage for approved travel related to job duties
