Teacher of the Deaf in Chicopee, MA

Qualifications and Experience:
- Valid certification as a Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing
- Experience working with students who are deaf or hard of hearing, preferably in a school setting
- Proficiency in sign language (ASL or other relevant systems) and familiarity with assistive auditory technologies
- Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
- Ability to adapt instructional materials and teaching methods to individual abilities
- Dedicated to fostering inclusion and accessibility in the classroom
Primary Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) that address each student’s strengths and needs
- Provide direct instruction using evidence-based strategies tailored to students with hearing loss
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, speech-language pathologists, audiologists, and other specialists to ensure consistent support
- Advocate for students’ communication access and help facilitate the use of assistive listening devices
- Maintain regular communication with families regarding student progress and strategies for support at home
- Participate in team meetings, professional development, and the broader school community as needed
